IVAR moving forward with plans for a new building

Posted by wlpo on September 30, 2013

Having more stuff than space to store your stuff is problem.  Illinois Valley Animal Rescue is fixing their space problem with a new building.

A prefabricated building has been ordered to give the animal shelter a place to have an office, showroom and clinic.

Chris Ellberg of IVAR says the new building is going up on the same lot as the one they have now.  They’ll continue to use the old building for housing the animals.

Ellberg estimates the new building to cost about $120,000 and says they have been approved to borrow about $110,000.

She’s hoping they’ll receive donations to cover the cost and office equipment such as file cabinets and desks to fill their new space.  They want to have the new building up by winter.

Bureau County job fair to feature local employers

Posted by wlpo on September 29, 2013

High unemployment does not mean you won’t find a job; it means you will have to be competitive.  There is a Just Hire One Job Fair Wednesday at the Bureau County Metro Center.

You will be able to give your résumé to area companies and maybe be interviewed for a position.  Which is why you should arrive prepared according to Pam Furlan of Business Employment Skills Team.  That means you have to change out of your pajamas or torn jeans and sweatshirt.  Furlan says employers will notice the way you are dressed before they can read your work history or education.

Dress pants and a polo shirt would be a good outfit.  You will also want to bring copies of an updated résumé that has been proofread.

Furlan says you will be able to meet people looking to fill manufacturing, healthcare, and retail jobs.  The job fair is Wednesday from nine to noon.

Learn more by listening to an interview at the WLPO AM and FM news page.

Kinzinger Wants Healthcare Act Shelved

Posted by wlpo on September 29, 2013

Do you want the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare” stopped or at least delayed?  You’re congressman thinks most of you do.

Adam Kinzinger joined every Republican in the House but two in voting to delay “Obamacare” by a year.  Even though only two Democrats supported the resolution, Kinzinger says “through a bipartisan vote, the House has given senate Democrats a chance to do what a majority of hardworking Americans want”, and that’s delaying the healthcare law for individuals like what’s already been done for businesses.

Kinzinger calls the healthcare act a “train wreck of a law”.
