Security concern turns flight back to Chicago

     CHICAGO (AP) – A United Airlines flight from Chicago to Brussels turned back several hours after takeoff because of what the airline called a suspected security concern, but authorities say no arrests were made.

     United spokeswoman Jennifer Dohm says Flight 972 landed safely at O’Hare International Airport at 10:07 p.m. Friday and law enforcement met the aircraft.

     FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde confirmed that agents responded but says they made no arrests.

     Neither she nor the airline would provide any details on the nature of the suspected security concern.

     The airline says it put passengers on an alternate flight to Brussels.

Bingo being used as a fundraiser for IVCC sports

          Can bingo help stave off elimination for Illinois Valley Community College athletics?

          Every Sunday in September will be IVCC Athletics Night at the new Jackpot Bingo in Peru.  The bingo hall is on North Plank road where the OTB used to be.        

          A part of the proceeds this Sunday will go to the IVCC women’s tennis team.  Doors open for bingo at 4:30pm.

Local roller derby team is holding tryouts

          If you’re a fearless woman with strong ankles and good balance, the Illinois Valley Vixen’s Roller Derby team needs you.

          The team is holding tryouts Wednesday.  Women should know how to roller skate but they don’t need to know the roller derby rules.  They also won’t need to bring gear to the tryouts. 

If you know a woman who would be interested, tryouts are from 6-8 Wednesday at the Paramount Skate Arena in Ottawa.
          The Illinois Valley Vixen’s has been around since 2010 and participates in bouts with teams all over the state.
