Teacher’s Strike Looming In Mendota?

There’s some labor unrest within the Mendota Elementary School District.

According to the NewsTribune, teachers voted Thursday night to give an intent-to-strike notice.  That doesn’t mean a teacher’s strike is imminent or will even happen.

The teachers and school board negotiating team continue to work with a mediator.  The next meeting between all sides is October 7th.

Mendota elementary teachers have been without a new contract for several months.

Kinzinger Wants To Stop “Obamacare”

Never a fan of the Affordable Care Act or “Obama Care”, your congressman voted to dump the president’s health care idea.

Republican Adam Kinzinger joined others in his party in voting to prohibit funding to implement the president’s healthcare law.  He also voted to fund the federal government at the current levels through this year.

Kinzinger says “House Republicans voted to fully fund the federal government while at the same time protecting the American people from the ravages of the President’s unworkable healthcare law.”  Kinzinger calls on senate members to do the same.

Led by Democrats, the Senate isn’t expected to stop the president’s healthcare act.  Enrollment for the new healthcare starts October 1st.

Deadline Arrives To Vote For Earlville Drive-In

Today’s the last day for you to help the Earlville Drive-In win a new digital projector.

Honda is ending its “Project Drive-In” vote at 9 this evening.  They’re donating four more digital projectors to the top vote getting drive-ins across the country.

In the first round of voting, a drive-in in McHenry was one of five winners.  The next four winning theaters will be announced Monday morning.

DCFS Launches Anti-Child Abuse Campaign

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is launching a new statewide campaign aimed at stopping child abuse and neglect.

The “You are Not Alone” campaign lets children know that help is available at DCFS’ child abuse hotline. The department is asking all regional school superintendents and private school organizations to partner in the effort and distribute 25,000 posters to public and private schools across the state. The posters are available in both English and Spanish.

Department officials say one in five children are abused or neglected before the age of 18. It notes that 70 percent of child abuse goes unreported.
