Fire at Dart Hay Service

Multiple fire departments are battling a serious fire at Dart Hay Service southeast of Streator.

Several buildings are on fire at the property, located near the intersection of Routes 17 and 18. Reading, Cornell and Pontiac fire departments are on the scene.

Truck stop robbery being investigated in Princeton

As if police in Princeton don’t have enough to worry about with the escapee, now there’s a report of a “strong-armed robbery”.

An emergency alert went out just after 10:30 Thursday morning about a “strong-armed robbery” at the Pilot Truck Stop. The alleged robber drove away in a small, blue SUV headed southbound on Route 26.

The suspect’s description is a 5’8 white man with a skinny build and short hair. He was wearing a red shirt and hat and blue jeans.

New school brings new traffic issues in Peru

If everyone is patient, there shouldn’t be any problems getting used to the new traffic flow around Northview Elementary School in Peru.

School officials with the blessing of the Peru Police Department and the city are making the intersection of West Street and Shooting Park Road a four-way stop during school pick up and drop off times. East and westbound traffic on Shooting Park Road will see a flashing red light before and after school.

Peru Elementary Superintendent Mark Cross says they’d like to make the intersection a permanent four-way stop but first needs a city ordinance change.

New Hall High School almost ready for classes to begin

Students at Hall High School can get acquainted with their new surroundings starting Thursday.

An open house for Hall students is Thursday and Friday from 9 until 2. Students can take the opportunity to find their locker, maybe even decorate it along with finding their classes in the new building.

A public open house is Monday from 1 until 5. The open house will include guided tours every 15 minutes.

The first day of classes at the new Hall High School are next Thursday with teacher institute days Tuesday and Wednesday.

Investigation continues while services are held for Mendota teen

Friends and family of 2014 Mendota High School graduate Jackie Martinez will gather the next two days to say goodbye.

Visitation is happening Thursday with a service Friday at Holy Cross Church in Mendota for Martinez who died Sunday morning after a hit and run near Bureau Junction. Bureau County Sheriff Jim Reed says they continue to follow leads into who hit Martinez and three other teens as they walked down a private lane. He says it’s not in their best interest to release some information they have collected to the public.

The 19-year-old worked at Monterrey Mushrooms. In high school, she played soccer for Mendota.
