Marshall County heads to the polls on Thursday

Posted by wlpo on September 7, 2015

Marshall County will be heading to the polls Thursday, although turnout is expected to be pretty low.

Parts of the county that are in the 18th Congressional District will head to the polls to elect a new member of the United States House of Representatives. The special election is to fill the seat of former congressman Aaron Shock, who resigned in March amid rumors of rampant misuse of campaign funds.

The election is between Democrat Robert Mellon and Republican Darin LaHood. The front runner in most polls is La Hood, who’s running in a predominantly Republican district and is a current state senator. Mellon is an Army veteran and a teacher in the Quincy area.

According to the NewsTribune, the Marshall County Clerk expects a low voter turnout, as only 14 percent showed up to vote last time.
