New restaurant wants to offer outdoor dining in downtown Spring Valley

If the weather is right, would you dine outdoors instead of indoors?

According to the NewsTribune, one of Spring Valley’s newest restaurants wants to offer outdoor dining. The Spring Valley City Council is mulling over the “Disaster Shacks” proposal to offer outdoor dining from 10am until 10 pm. The restaurant opened September 5th on East Saint Paul Street.

The catch would be no alcohol, specific outdoor furniture and all the other paperwork like permits, licenses and design plans for seating.

Social media threats sends police to Fieldcrest High School

It’s been a tense week at Fieldcrest High School in Minonk.

Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oakley says he called the Minonk Police after becoming aware of threats involving the school made on social media. Police officers have been at the school according to Oakley as a precautionary measure.

The superintendent says there’s no credible reason to believe that staff or students are in any danger. But he says they take all threats seriously and will continue to work with police.

Fire quickly put out at popular downtown Ottawa bar and restaurant

One of the trendiest places to eat and be seen in Ottawa is closed for the foreseeable future.

A fire broke out Monday afternoon in the kitchen of the C230 restaurant across the street from Ottawa City Hall. Firefighters had it under control in about 10 minutes. Nobody was hurt. A fire at a downtown Ottawa restaurant was quickly put out this afternoon.

A cause of the fire hasn’t been announced yet. The State Fire Marshall’s Office was called to help figure that out.

In a post to its Facebook page, owners of C230 say, “A new C230 will arise making us better than ever. Please be patient with us over the next few weeks as we rebuild.”

Rash of catalytic converter thefts in La Salle

What’s the market these days for catalytic converters?

La Salle Police are investigating several complaints of the parts being stolen from underneath cars. The thefts happened Sunday night into Monday morning.
