Three injured in chain-reaction crash on Route 251

A four-car crash on Route 251 sent three people to the hospital yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 3:30 on the Oglesby hill, south of the Illinois River and near the construction zone where a turn lane is being added to the 251-Slough Road intersection.

A silver Eldorado allegedly ran into black SUV, which then hit a white SUV, which in turn hit a dark blue SUV. Two drivers and a passenger were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Police haven’t released the names yet.

Kinzinger gives strong praise to resigning Speaker Boehner

United States Congressman Adam Kinzinger had strong praise to give about fellow Republican and House Speaker John Boehner, who announced yesterday he would resign at the end of October.

Kinzinger said Speaker Boehner has been a great leader of the Republican Party and the House of Representatives, enduring a thankless job in service to our country.

Kinzinger added that thanks to Boehner, the Republican majority is the strongest it’s been in 80 years. He went on to say that even during challenging times for America, Speaker Boehner “helped move our country forward, tirelessly advancing conservative, pro-growth policies and reforms.”

Semi and car collide north of Ottawa

A stretch of Route 71 was closed nearly five hours Friday morning north of Ottawa.

Just before four o’clock, deputies say Ellen Widen of Ottawa was driving a car about a mile north of Interstate 80 on Route 71 when she drove into the other lane of traffic. Widen collided with a semi driven by Michael Caputo of Rushville.

Widen was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. Caputo wasn’t hurt.

Three car crash at Route 251-Shooting Park intersection

Traffic was snarled at one of Peru’s busiest intersections after a three-vehicle crash.

Eighty-four-year-old Mary Powers of Princeton is accused of failing to yield when making a left turn at the Shooting Park Road and Route 251 intersection Thursday afternoon. Her alleged mistake caused her to get into a crash with 86-year-old Stephania Plym of Spring Valley and 54-year-old William Peradotti of Peru. The two cars and SUV all had front end damage.

Plym and her passenger, 80-year-old Jane Lampkin of Princeton were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru.
