60th drug dealer caught

Not even a year old and the Peru Police Drug Unit logged its sixtieth arrest Friday night adjacent to Washington School. Peru police say an undercover detective purchased a substance believed to be methadone around 7pm Friday from 40-year old Rebecca Cisek of Peru. The transaction occurred in a city parking lot in the 1400 block of Eighth Street adjacent to Washington Park. Lab results confirmed the substance to be Methadone. Cisek faces charges of unlawful delivery of a Controlled Substance with a bond of $25-thousand dollars. Cisek is in custody also for a warrant related to another drug charge. Cisek is in the county jail.

Tonica Fire update

A dawn fire south and east of Tonica is extinguished with help from Tonica and other area fire departments. Todd Anderson is Tonica’s Assistant Fire Chief. Anderson told AM 1220 WLPO news a manufacturing building owned by Illinois Valley Minerals caught fire about 6am Sunday. The building is on property shared with Dauber INC on North 18th road. Anderson said 75% of the building was still standing when the fire was extinguished around 9am. Tonica received assistance from LaSalle, Leonore and Lostant fire departments and IVM employees. Tonica Fire Chief Eugene Schultz says Illinois Valley Minerals will be shutdown for some time. How this affects Dauber, INC is unknown. No injuries were reported.

9-11 memorial service

President Barack Obama has read a psalm about refuge and strength, at a memorial ceremony at the site of the World Trade Center to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. After a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., marking the time when the first jetliner slammed into the north tower a decade ago, Obama read Psalm 46 from the Bible. Moments of silence have also been observed at the times when airliners struck the south tower and the Pentagon, and another is planned at ceremonies in Shanksville, Pa., at the time Flight 93 went down.

Sandwich Fair last day

It’s the last day for the Sandwich Fair. Animal judging, a 9-11 Tribute, two demo derbies and “Cloggin’ Craze” are some of the events planned. The fair has a website: sandwich fair dot com.

9-11 memorial services

9-11 memorial programs are going to occur at 6pm tonite in Streator City Park and 6:30 in Henry’s Central Park. The latter will have Fire, Police and EMS crews from Central Illinois in attendance. New York City Police Officer and 9/11 first responder, David Martinez will be the keynote speaker.

Anderson believed Dauber INC would be unaffected…however, Illinois Valley Minerals may be shut down for a time. There were no injuries reported.
