Utica Hydrant Flushing

Utica’s water department will flushing hydrants over the next three weeks starting tommorrow (Monday 9-19) with Clarks Hill area and Grove Street. Tuesday – Church street. Wednesday – Canal and Griffin and Thursday – Johnson and Washington. Flushing will occur only on weekdays.

Streator SAPC

Persons interested in reducing substance abuse in the Streator area have formed Streator Substance Abuse Prevention Coaltion. The Coalition’s attempting to raise money for a drug detection dgo with a golf playday, Saturday the 24th at Twin Creeks Golf Course. Businesses or individuals can purchase a “Tee sponsorship”, items for door prizes or golfer awards or simply a cash donation. Teams are needed to fill in the field for a four person, best ball scramble. Entry fee is $50 per person. Call John Washko for information.

E. Norris Drive construction

Do you travel the two hundred block of East Norris Drive in Ottawa during the work week? Westbound traffic will be limited to one lane in that area for about seven days. Contractors will be connecting water and sewer mains to a new building then restore the affected portion of the street. The affected lane will be closed at 9am tommorrow and remained closed for seven days, weather permitting.

Oglesby Lincoln open house

Kids may dread the school open house, but for parents, it is an opportunity to find out what’s happening in your child’s classroom. Oglesby Lincoln throws open its doors tommorrow (tonite -19th) at 6:30pm to let parents meet with their kids’ teachers and look around the school. At the same time, the Oglesby Early Childhood Program will have a Community Health and Safety Fair in the school gym – also between 6:30 and 8pm. The school is at 755 Bennett Avenue. The fair is open to the public and is free.

Buy House – Get Beer Tab

A Chicago-area home seller is offering a $1,000 bar tab for a neighborhood watering hole to the person who takes her place off her hands. Melanie Gravdal tells the Chicago Sun-Times that she was trying to come up with a way to set her Glenview townhouse apart from others on the market. That’s when she joked that the buyer could walk home from a night at Grandpa’s Place bar across the street, and she hit upon the idea of offering cash to be used there. She says she’s seen an uptick in interest in her townhouse since she started the incentive. But she doesn’t know if the two are related. Grandpa’s Place has been around for 113 years.

Tributes to late Senator Percy

Current and former Illinois politicians from both parties are praising former Republican Senator Charles Percy, who has died at the age of 91. Percy died yesterday in Washington D.C. His daughter, Sharon Rockefeller, announced in March 2009 that he had Alzheimer’s disease.

Vintage Illinois Wine Fest

Matthiessen State Park busy hosting vintners and their fans for the “Vintage Wine Fest”. Twenty-eight wineries will pass out samples of Their best creations along with food. “Plush” and “Howard and the White Boys” will provide music. Designated drivers will be given a special wrist band and complimentary coca cola products in place of wine. Chairs and Tables are provided but bringing a lawn chair and blanket is a good thing, too. The $15 entry fee will get you a commemorative wine glass and five tasting tickets.

Breakfast at the airport

Breakfast then, perhaps, a trip into the wild blue yonder? It can happen today till noon at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru. The Illinois Valley Flying Club will serve breakfast and provide rides and displays. Rides are provided at various prices and include a WW2 torpedo bomber, helicopter and an airplane. Life Flight Helicopter and cars will be on display. A raffle for a Las Vegas trip will be held, too.
