River Sweep for Ottawa, not Peru

Posted by wlpo on September 15, 2011

For many years the third Saturday of September brought the annual Illinois River Sweep on the Illinois River in Peru.  But you won’t see volunteers picking up debris this Saturday.

Dave Lourie and Amanda Glover of TEST Incorporated and the Friends of the Illinois River have decided it’s time to let someone else organize it.  Only thing is nobody has, at least in Peru.  Lourie finds that disappointing.

Groups of volunteers will be busy in Ottawa though.  A group over more than 100 volunteers is meeting at Allen Park at 9am Saturday.  More people are welcome.  Gloves and garbage bags will be provided.
