Oglesby plans a second Scarecrow Scramble

Posted by wlpo on September 9, 2011

Time start brushing up on Oglesby facts and history and it probably wouldn’t hurt to memorize a street map.  The Scarecrow Scramble is back for a second year.  The scramble is like TV’s Amazing Race mixed with a scavenger hunt.

Last year teams of two dressed up in costumes and crisscrossed the town on foot, following clues and completing challenges.  Organizers are promising that this year’s scramble will be better and attract more teams.

The scramble is being held Saturday, October 1st with check-in at 1pm at the Dickenson House.  Winners will be announced at the bonfire and wiener roast later that evening.

You can find more information at the city’s website.

Posted by wlpo on September 9, 2011

With two terms on the Utica Village Board and 12 years of business experience, Andy Skoog of Utica says he would like to be the next La Salle County Circuit Clerk.

Skoog says he’s entering the race as a democrat because he enjoys local governments and thinks it’s a good time to help out. Skoog owns restaurants in Utica and La Salle.  He’s the only democrat showing interest so far.

La Salle County Board member Bob Vickery is running as a republican.   Current circuit clerk Joe Carey isn’t running for another term.

Almost everything area school kids know about the September 11th attacks they learned from history lessons or pop culture.  With the anniversary of the attacks Sunday a couple of area grade schools will be talking about the event Friday.

At Lincoln Junior High in La Salle, teachers have been explaining it as a historical event.  Principal Brian DeBernardi says some classes Friday will watched a video about the attacks.

At Parkside School in Peru, students and teachers will have a moment of silence and spend time learning about the attacks.
