“Saints and Sinners” to be performed in Peru

Posted by wlpo on October 28, 2013

If your grade school teacher was a nun you’ll probably understand the humor in a play that’s being performed in Peru Friday.  “Saints and Sinners” is a comedy written by the woman that wrote “Late Nite Catechism”, Vicki Quade.

She says it’s an interactive play about developing a fundraiser for a church.  In it, they agree to create a calender featuring famous saints and infamous sinners.

The one-woman performance actually is a fundraiser for St. Joseph’s Parish in Peru.  Tickets are $35 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart who served at St. Joseph’s Parish for many years.  You can get tickets by calling the church office.

Learn more about Quade and her plays by listening to an interview that’s up at the WLPO AM and FM news page.

Illinois Prison Guards Seeing Lots Of Overtime

Posted by wlpo on October 28, 2013

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Do you get overtime pay at your job? The Associated Press says overtime pay jumped 34 percent last year for corrections officers in Illinois’ prisons.

The spike corresponded with Gov. Pat Quinn’s closing of prisons like the Dwight prison to save money. But state officials argue the costs were increased when a union sued to stop the closings and the transfer of some guards got delayed.

An AP analysis of state records shows that employees were paid $62 million in overtime in the year that ended June 30.
