Beloved Former Peru Fire Chief Remembered

Over 50 fire trucks were part of a funeral procession for former Peru fire chief Gary Eccles on Saturday.

A steady stream of people paid their respects inside the Peru fire station.  A large fire and EMS procession escorted  Eccles’ family members to the Peru City Cemetery.

Eccles died last Saturday after a battle with cancer.

Woman Jumps To Her Death At NIU

A scary scene at Northern Illinois University.

A woman jumped to her death from the university’s parking deck Friday afternoon.  The woman’s name hasn’t been released.

She was rushed to Kishwaukee Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Foul play isn’t suspected.

NIU officials say the woman wasn’t a student.

Peru Hospital Ready To Scare You

Illinois Valley Community Hospital is getting into the spirit of Halloween.

The hospital has put together a haunted house across the street from the emergency room entrance on 6th street.  Scare yourself Sunday from 5pm- 8pm.

Besides the haunted house there are treats available.  Going through the haunted house costs $5.  Kids 5 and under are free.

Proceeds go to the IVCH Foundation.

Stage 212 Wrapping Up Its 2013 Season

Time is running out to catch Stage 212’s last production of the year.

The comedy-thriller “Deathtrap” is being performed tonight at 7:30 and tomorrow afternoon at 2.  Larry Kelsey is the director with Bob Kinsella getting the lead role in the play.

Tickets are available at the Stage 212 box office in downtown La Salle.  Tickets are 15 dollars a person.

New IVCC Tech Building Close To Opening

Nearly two years after a groundbreaking, the Peter Miller Community Technology Center will be unveiled on Friday.

The newest building on the Illinois Valley Community College is 80 thousand square feet.  A ribbon-cutting ceremony starts Friday at 1 outside the main entrance.  Tours of the new building will be offered after the ribbon cutting.

The multi-million dollar building is named after both Peter Miller Jr. and his son Pete Miller.  Miller Group Media made a one million donation to the technology center campaign.

Miller Group Media includes WLPO AM and FM, 99.3 WAJK, 96.5 the Wolf, the NewsTribune and AgriNews.
