Prosecutors get more time in Blagojevich appeal

Posted by wlpo on October 11, 2013

CHICAGO (AP) – A federal appellate court has given prosecutors more time to prepare their brief in former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s appeal of his corruption convictions.

Federal prosecutors made the request on Friday. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals responded, allowing them until Nov. 4. Any response from Blagojevich’s attorneys would be due by Nov. 18. Prosecutors’ brief was due Oct. 21.

Blagojevich filed the appeal in July, asked the appellate court to toss his convictions or at least reduce his 14-year prison sentence. Blagojevich was convicted on 18 counts over two trials.

Prosecutors say they need more time because of the voluminous case file.

Man accused of trying to flee after traffic stop

Posted by wlpo on October 11, 2013

Which would be worse, getting arrested for missing a court date or being accused of trying to run away during a traffic stop?

Jonathon Price of La Salle has to deal with both after an encounter with the La Salle Police Friday night just south of the Shippingsport Bridge.

Police say Price lied about his name and took off running after the woman he was with was pulled over.  Officers say they quickly caught Price and arrested him for obstructing and resisting police.  He was also wanted on a failure to appear warrant for domestic battery.

The driver, Brianna Daniels of La Salle, was ticketed for improper lane usage and not having insurance.  She was released with a court while Price was taken to the county jail.
