Up on Roof fundraiser

A dancing Christmas tree joins thirty four Stage 212 members for a fundraising holiday review this Thursday. To make money for a new roof on the Manahan Center, Stage 212 has assembled “Up on the Roof”, a holiday review Thursday through Sunday. All the holiday favorites will be performed. It’s produced in partnership with Pleasant View, a Lutheran Life community and Independent for Life. Tickets are $25 and can obtained at the box office.

World AIDS Day

Another World AIDS Day approaches this Thursday, December 1. The Centers for Disease Control is concerned that most of the new HIV infections in the U.S. involve people under 30 years of age. In a three year period ending in 2009, the CDC determined the HIV incidence rate as twenty-one percent higher for Americans ages 13 to 29. Improvement to prescription drugs and long-term care plans have helped address the problem of AIDS in the last 30 years. The non-profit “Act against AIDS”, launched by the CDC encourages people, especially under age 30, to get tested for AIDS. Persons can find information at act against aids dot org.

Zook fired

The News Gazette in Champaign-Urbana reports Ron Zook has been fired as football coach at Illinois.  The story says an official announcement will come later today.

Crystal Lake plane crash

Authorities say four people are dead after a small plane crashed into a field near the northwestern Chicago suburb of Crystal Lake. A Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. yesterday in rural McHenry County. All four people on board were killed.

 

IVCC tuition

While your spending money for Christmas, don’t forget to pay tuition at Illinois Valley Community College. Tuition for the spring semester is due no later than December 7th. If you don’t pay tuition on time, you could have classes dropped. If you are getting financial aid, loans or grants, you must talk to an IVCC cashier to have your tuition deferred.

Christmas in Utica

Christmas in the Village is today in Utica. It includes arts, crafts and carriage rides. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will also be making an appearance. You can catch a performance by a barbershop quartet from 1-4pm. And at 4:30pm, the Christmas tree at the Memorial Park will be lit.

 

LaSalle City Council

Seems La Salle City Council has a lot of its plate for the Monday night Council Meeting. Ordinances up for adoption include an agreement for a Master plan workup in reference to Rotary Park, regulating and amending parking ordinances on both sides of 8th street between Lafayette and Creve Coeur and an ordinance approving a preliminary plan for a unit development for the Carrie All company. The meeting starts at 7pm.
