LP’s west gym to be named for Dr. A.J. Sellett

Posted by wlpo on November 20, 2013

Few people attended more LP High School games and delivered more LP students than Dr. Andrew Sellett.  The gym where the late doctor watched the LP boys’ basketball team for decades is going to be named in his honor.

After taking suggestions from the community, a committee made up of school board members and staff thought Sellett would be the best person for the honor.  Sellett graduated from LP in 1934.  He was a school board member for many years and provided the physicals for the schools athletic teams.

The school board Wednesday night gave the recommendation a unanimous vote.

More than 20 names were suggested.  The committee plans to dedicate other school facilities for some of them.

A ceremony for the official naming will be in January during the LP vs St. Bede game.
