Peru aldermen could ask retired judge to help with investigation

Questions about a public works employee earning overtime pay has some of the Peru alderman asking questions.  The issue was the topic of a special closed session meeting Friday, November 8.  Action wasn’t taken after that meeting. 

The aldermen could decide when they meet Monday to have retired Judge William Balestri investigate and review the situation.  Monday’s meeting is at 7:30pm.

Oglesby Police investigate trespassing

Sometimes it’s good to be a nosy neighbor.  Someone on Korter Avenue in Oglesby called the police after spotting three men at a neighbor’s house while the neighbor was away Friday afternoon.

Police say two men were seen going inside of the house.  The men eventually left in a Toyota car.  Police were looking for the car but never found it.  The homeowner was called and didn’t notice anything missing from the house.

Streator man run over after helping teen out of a ditch

You can’t be too careful when you’re working around cars.  A man helping a girl get out of ditch by Streator was accidentally run-over by the girl.

La Salle County Sheriff’s Deputies say it happened Friday night on East 20^th Road after Abigail Wakeman of Streator got her car stuck in a ditch.  Police say Dustin Hall of Streator and another friend were able to pull Wakeman’s car out using tow straps and a pick-up truck.  But while Hall was on the ground removing the tow strips, he was run over by Wakeman who didn’t see him.

Hall was taken to by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital.  No one was ticketed.

Overnight crash kills one person in Troy Grove Township

One person is dead and another person is injured after a crash west of Triumph.  It happened just after midnight Saturday on La Salle County Highway 19, or 3973^rd Road in Troy Grove Township.

Sheriff’s deputies say the car rolled.  Two people were taken to Mendota Community Hospital where one was pronounced dead. 

Police aren’t saying more.  It’s being investigated by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office.
