Documentary about retired Ottawa High teacher to air Thursday

The story of an inspirational choir teacher that may have taught your children will be on television this week.  “Something of Love: A Tribute to Roger Amm” premieres Thursday on WTVP, the PBS station in central Illinois.

Amm retired from Ottawa High School in May.  He taught there for 32 years, all awhile leading the school’s choirs to success at state competitions year after year.

Amm left a lasting impact on many of his students, including Kane Farabaugh, who wrote and produced the short documentary. 

You can watch Something of Love on WTVP at 8pm Thursday and again at 9:30pm Friday and at 4pm Sunday.

New doctor arrives at IVCH clinics

If you need to see a doctor in Utica or Oglesby, you could find yourself in the care of a U.S. Army veteran.  Dr. David O’Donnell began seeing patients at the Illinois Valley Community Hospital clinics in Oglesby and Utica Monday. 

O’Donnell rose to the rank of colonel while serving with the army’s medical corps in the United States and in Iraq, South Korea and Germany.  He’s a family practice physician.

Conservation Police Crack Down On Lake Holiday Boaters

Tickets were flying during holiday boating patrols at Lake Holiday.

Conservation Police Sgt. Hank Frazier says during a two hour enforcement Saturday afternoon, they handed out 20 warnings and 13 tickets.  Nine of the tickets were for lack of life jackets and five for not securing children on boats under the age of 13.

Thomas Kelly of Frankfurt was arrested during the sting for operating a boat while intoxicated in Lake Holiday.

Next “Concert for a Cause” Quickly Approaching

While Tim McGraw is still fresh in everyone’s minds, it’s time to start looking ahead to the next “Concerts for a Cause” show.

Brantley Gilbert will play the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru on Saturday, August 3rd.  As of right now he has no opening act or acts.  But according to the Lou’s La Grotto Facebook page, expect they may announce up and coming country acts this week to open up for Gilbert.

Tickets for Brantley Gilbert are 48 dollars and are available at Lou’s LaGrotto or by calling the restaurant.  A portion of the proceeds go to Peru Little League.

River Rescue In Marshall County

The ride for six people on a pleasure boat in Marshall County didn’t provide much pleasure in the end.

River rescue squads were called out late Saturday night to the Illinois River between Henry and Lacon after a pleasure boat hit a tree.  Four adults and two children were okay after their boat started taking on water.

The accident was a couple miles north of Lacon.
