Governor Rauner Signs Bill Banning “Bath Salts” on Monday

Posted by wlpo on July 18, 2016

Governor Rauner took aim at bath salts Monday in a move that actually has nothing to do with your tub.

The governor signed a bill in a town just outside of Springfield which would ban the so-called “bath salts,” chemicals which mimic the effects of other powerful drugs. According to Rauner the “epidemic” has been on the rise in rural communities throughout the state.

The bill makes it illegal for anyone in the state to sell the chemicals. If caught, retailers could face a fine of up to $150,000. Most states have already passed similar legislation.

The recently-signed bill will take effect in January of next year.
