Sunday Storms Spun Tornado in Kankakee County, Funnel Clouds in Putnam

Posted by wlpo on July 18, 2016

Sunday night’s storms led to a tornado touchdown in Kankakee County, in addition to some funnel clouds that touched down in northern Livingston County.

The National Weather Service office in Romeoville said the tornado had winds of 100 miles-per-hour, was 200 yards wide, and travelled for about 2.2 miles near the village of Cabery. Crews were also out looking to see if a tornado had touched down in Putnam County.

A fire chief set a warning off after reporting a brief tornado southwest of Hennepin Sunday night. Five minutes later, a funnel cloud briefly went up and down in Putnam County near Florid.

The storms blew strong through the Illinois Valley on Sunday. Ottawa Police also reported limbs, trees, and power lines had been downed.
