Peru Police Latest to get Drug for Treating Opioid Overdose

Posted by wlpo on July 23, 2016

The Peru Police Department will be better equipped to respond to overdose calls, thanks to a donation by the LaSalle County MRC.

The Medical Reserve Corps donated several doses of the so-called “nasal naloxone” to the Peru PD on Wednesday. Naloxone is a drug which can help counter the effects of opioid overdose.

The LaSalle MRC has been donating naloxone to several police departments in the Illinois Valley as a result of a grant they recently received. The $15,000 grant was awarded to them to expand the LaSalle County Naloxone Training Program, and they’re using some of the money to give the drug to police departments which have already completed the program.

The MRC started offering the program, which is specifically designed for law enforcement, earlier this year.

LaSalle County Health Department Looking for Input on Issues Impacting Community Health

Posted by wlpo on July 23, 2016

What are some of the things that lead to a healthy community? If you think you know the answer to this question, the LaSalle County Health Department is looking for your input.

The department has put out a new online survey which lets you rate the things that you think are important to a healthy community. Your answers will then be combined with other surveys and presented to a committee which prioritizes health problems in the county.

The surveys are part of a broader plan by the health department to develop a “Local Assessment of Needs.” The plan will then be changed every 5 years as part of a strategy to work towards a healthier county.

You can find a link to the online survey by clicking here. According to the department, it will take about 10 minutes.
