Small Stretch of Dee Bennett Road to Close for Construction Starting Wednesday

A short stretch of Dee Bennett Road will close to traffic starting on Wednesday.

Construction work will be stretching from near the La Salle County Nursing Home entrance to near the west edge of Naplate.  The closure may last into October.

You’ll still be able to get to the nursing home and highway department from the west on Dee Bennett Road and from the north using East 13th Road to Koenig Road.

It’s Not Too Late to Celebrate Independence Day in Streator

It’s almost time for one of the best fireworks shows around.

The Streator High School football field is the site of fireworks Saturday night as part of the Streator 4th celebration.  Before the fireworks you can check out the 99.3 WAJK and Streator 4th “Red, White, Blue & You” talent competition on the field.

Across town at Northpoint Plaza is the carnival, food and live music.

Summer Fun Fest Rolls on this Weekend in Oglesby

Day 3 of Oglesby Summer Fun Fest has something for everyone.

If you’re looking for a deal, check out the citywide garage sales or craft and vendor sale along with the used book sale.  For the kids there is a kiddie parade, kid’s party in the park, and an appearance by Staley the Bear.

As for live music, the lineup tonight includes Bruce Springsteen, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis tribute bands.  You can get a complete rundown of Oglesby Fun Fest events here.

Former County Jailer Appears in Court on Theft Charges

The former LaSalle County jailer accused of taking more than $10,000 in Social Security payments after a relative had died appeared in court Friday.

Lisa Von Ruden appeared without a lawyer, telling Judge Cynthia Raccuglia she didn’t feel that she needed one because she “had no intention of fighting the charges.” Raccuglia pushed back the proceedings, telling Von Ruden “It’s best you find a lawyer, you know better.”

The 51-year old former resident of rural Streator faces two felony charges for the theft, which allegedly started in August of 2014. It was then Von Ruden supposedly started receiving the Social Security payments and authorizing herself as the payee. This allegedly continued throughout last year.

She was able to post bond to be released and is due back in court the 26th.

One Dead After Motorcycle Crash Early Friday Night

A ride north of Ohio Friday night would prove to be a deadly one for one of the riders.

According to the NewsTribune, emergency crews responded to reports of a motorcycle rider who was injured after hitting a deer. The accident happened at Route 26 at McGinty Road. A Life Flight Helicopter was called to the crash, which took place shortly after 9.

The coroner would end up being called for one of the victims, while the other reportedly did not have life-threating injuries. No more information has been released about those involved at this time.
