Many water lines remain frozen in La Salle

Posted by wlpo on February 26, 2014

Some of the snow has melted but the ground remains frozen along with approximately 40 water lines in La Salle.  The problem started about three weeks ago.  Service lines were freezing between the water main and the house.

The La Salle Public Works Department and two contractors have been trying anything possible to thaw the lines, but as Superintendent Jeff Bumgarner explained to the city council Tuesday night, for every line that thaws another one freezes.

People without running water have been able to shower at the Illinois Valley Y and fill up containers at the La Salle Fire Station.

You’re encouraged to leave your water trickling.

Concealed-Carry Permits Close To Being Issued

Posted by wlpo on February 26, 2014

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – State troopers say they’re getting ready to issue the state’s first concealed carry permits in the coming days.

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says the first licenses could be issued next week. Troopers had said they hoped to issue the first permits in the spring.

Illinois gun owners began applying for the permits last month after the state became the last in the nation to allow people to carry concealed guns.

State officials believe as many as 400,000 people will apply for the concealed carry permits during the first year of the law.
