No Confirmation Yet On Potential Rare Wolf Near Tonica

Posted by wlpo on December 13, 2013

The wolf or hybrid dog that was hit and killed last Thursday in Tonica is being kept on ice.

Conservation Police Sgt. Hank Frazier says the unconfirmed wolf is in the evidence freezer at Starved Rock waiting to be tested.  Eventually Frazier’s department will take samples from the animal and ship them off to see if it’s indeed a wolf.

The animal was taken in by conservation police after a driver hit and killed it last Thursday afternoon near Tonica.  Frazier says Illinois doesn’t have a wolf population.
