Big Grant For DePue Library

The library in DePue is getting a major facelift paid for in part by a Public Library Construction Grant.

State Librarian and Secretary of State Jesse White will be at the library in DePue Monday morning to officially award the 94 thousand dollar grant.

The money will be used to repair structural damage, replace window soffits and gutters.  The Selby Library District is also using some of its own money for the repairs.

Wallace Student Wins State Spelling Bee

For the second straight year, a La Salle County speller is headed to the national bee in Washington, D.C.

Wallace Grade School’s Ram Koganti bested the competition at yesterday’s Peoria Journal Star Grand Finals Spelling Bee to punch a ticket to the Scripps Spelling Bee in late May in D.C.  Koganti won yesterday’s state spelling bee by getting “outrageous” correctly in the 28^th round.

Last year, La Salle’s Grant Innis won the state bee in Peoria.
