Shaved Heads Means Successful Fundraising In Ottawa

The 10th Annual St. Baldricks event in Ottawa goes down as a success.

Organizer Rita Chovan says 47 thousand dollars was raised as of Sunday night with more money likely coming in between in-person and online donations.  She set a goal of 50 thousand dollars for the Jeremiah Joe’s fundraiser.

150 people shaved their heads Saturday including Chovan.  Each person raised money to fight childhood cancer.

There’s another St. Baldrick’s event this Friday Wallace Grade School and the next Friday at Jefferson Elementary in Ottawa.

Gilbert Concert Will Benefit Still Unnamed School Or Charity

If you have a school or charity that could use a helping hand, maybe country star Brantley Gilbert can help.

Lou’s La Grotto is accepting letters from school and area charities to receive part of the proceeds from Gilbert’s “Concert for a Cause” on August 3rd.  To be considered, turn your letter into Lou’s on or before Saturday, March 23rd.

Proceeds from the July 6th Tim McGraw show are going to the March of Dimes.

Ticket Prices For Concerts For Cause Shows

Ticket prices for Tim McGraw and Brantley Gilbert concerts in Peru have been revealed.

If you want to see McGraw live at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport on July 6th, it’ll cost 60 bucks if you buy your ticket at Lou’s La Grotto.  The price goes up to 64 dollars if you order by phone or 66 dollars if you order online.  The on-sale date for McGraw hasn’t been released.

As for Brantley Gilbert’s show August 3rd, tickets are 43 dollars at Lou’s, 46 dollars over the phone and 48 dollars online.  Tickets for Gilbert go on sale this Saturday morning at 10.

All tickets are general admission.  This Saturday only, if you buy a Brantley Gilbert ticket you can also get a presale McGraw ticket.

96.5 the Wolf is once again a presenting sponsor of “Concerts for a Cause”.

Help the Food Pantry

Instant Potatoes, canned corn and beans, corn muffin mix and Jello. It might be your shopping list, but, it’s also needed by the Illinois Valley Food Pantry. Donna Hess, Executive Director of the Pantry has set 10am March 23 for their Easter distribution. Monetary donations were down at Christmas and Hess is hoping to regain what was lost now. Volunteers are also needed to pack food for six hundred fifty local clients. Donations of food or money may be brought to the Pantry 9 – Noon Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday AND 11 – 6 on Wednesday. The pantry is at 136 Marquette Street in LaSalle. To be eligible for the distribution, you must register with the Pantry by March 20th.

Brady meeting cancelled

A member of the Illinois Republican Party’s central committee says a meeting was canceled partly because there weren’t enough votes to fire party chairman Pat Brady. Some committeemen wanted to oust Brady, largely because he publicly supported a bill to legalize gay marriage earlier this year. A meeting had been scheduled for Saturday. It was canceled Friday night amid pressure from prominent Republicans, including U.S. Senator Mark Kirk and House Republican Leader Tom Cross.

Brockovich in the county

Does the name Erin Brockovich sound familiar?  Her investigation into contamination in her community was written into an award winning movie. Brockovich will be at Serena High School at 3 today to talk about benzene and solvent pollution discharge at the Wedron Silica Company Mine site.  It will be about two hours long and the public is welcome.
