Local school official reacts to Connecticut shooting

Posted by wlpo on December 14, 2012

Peru Public Schools Superintendent Mark Cross calls the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut sickening.

Cross said he was following the story and it looked like the school had common security measures in place as do the buildings in Peru.  He says each school has one main entrance and that guest must be buzzed in.

Cross said the district performs drills for lockdowns involving staff, students and police.  But he says when someone wants to do harm to others and they’re not afraid to die they will probably be successful.  He says they just have to be vigilant.

The shootings happened Friday morning.  26 people including many students were killed.  It’s believed that the shooter was the 20 year old son of a teacher at that building.

Posted by wlpo on December 14, 2012

On the same day 3-year old Lily Rosploch of La Salle undergoes surgery for cancer, organizers of the Weber Christmas Light Show are trying to do what they can to help.

The Weber’s are having a special “Friday Night Lights for Angels” show set to a playlist for Lily. Donations at the light show today between 4:30 and 11 will go to the Rosploch family.

Besides taking in the light show and making a donation, you’re asked to leave a letter or drawing that will be put on large board and delivered to the Rosplochs.

The Weber’s did a special show November 30th for 7-year old Katie Becker of Utica who is in a coma.  That show raised over 24 hundred dollars.
