Missing Ottawa man found

An Ottawa man missing for about a week has been found. The body of Chris Strobel was found about 10 am today along the north shore of the Illinois River, a mile west of the train tressel. This was confirmed by AM 1220 WLPO by Ottawa police detective Dave Gualandri. There were no indications of foul play. Ottawa River Rescue was looking this morning based on a caller who thought they saw something along the river. The family has been notified. Gualandri says there are many questions that have to be answered including how Strobel got into the water. Ottawa police and the county coroner joined river rescue at the scene this morning.

Stage 212 to offer audition workshop

Getting up on stage and performing takes guts and practice.  If you have a high school or college student that’s interested in actor they could find a workshop at Stage 212 useful.

An audition workshop will go over auditioning skills, improv, character development, and cold reads. The two-part workshop will meet Friday, May 11 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. and continue on Saturday, May 12 from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

It costs $25 and students can register on the Stage 212 website.

La Salle County real estate taxes distributed

Taxing districts in La Salle County should be receiving their share of the $5.6 million in real estate taxes collected last year.

Friday was the final distribution of taxes according to Treasurer Don Lamps.  The total included money from the delinquent tax bill sale.

Program takes a look at Maze Lumber and Nails

The look into La Salle County’s working past continues with a program about Maze Lumber and Maze Nail.  Roelif Loveland will talk about the history of the Peru companies and the impact they have had on the region.

Loveland is the President and General Manager of Maze Company.  It’s being held at 4pm Sunday at the Hegeler Carus Mansion in La Salle. It’s $3 to attend.   It’s part of the Way We Worked exhibit.

IVCC moves spring recital to Peru church

Since the Illinois Valley Community College auditorium has turned into a construction site the college has had to use other venues for college concerts and events.

Monday evening their music students will give their spring recital at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru.  It starts at 7:30pm.  It’s free.
