One person injured during an ATV accident

A snowy field and an ATV might seem like a good time, but it can be dangerous. A person was taken to the hospital after hitting a pole in rural Tonica late Friday afternoon.

It happened near 675th Road. A person was taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru according to the Tonica Fire Department. The Conservation Police were investigating the accident.

Fire burns harvested field near Tonica

A windy day is never good for fighting a fire but the Tonica and Leonore Fire Departments were able to put out a field fire before it grew too large.

The fire started Friday afternoon on North 1929th road. Rick Turri of the Tonica Fire Department says approximately one acre of harvested corn field was burning when they arrived. He says they were able to quickly contain the fire with the help of a farmer.

They believe the fire started from crop debris that had collected on a piece of equipment being used in the field.

Corn crib fire caught in time

You can try to control a brush fire but it is hard to control where the embers go.   Embers from a nearby brush fire are thought to be what started a care crib roof on fire.

Tonica and Lostant Fire Departments where called the property on North 19th Road around dinner time Saturday.  

Rick Turri of the Tonica Fire Department says the fire was quickly extinguished with little damage to the corn crib. Nearby corn was sprayed has a precaution.

Fire destroys house west of Tonica

The black smoke you saw near Tonica Tuesday morning was from fire consuming a two-story house. The fire was reported around 7:15am and had the house completely ablaze when firefighters from Tonica and Oglesby departments arrived.  Cedar Point and Lostant Fire also send trucks and Peru sent an ambulance.

Tonica Fire Information Officer Rick Turri says part of the house collapse keeping firefighters out. The house and everything in it is a total loss.

Roy Alleman Jr. owns the house. Everyone living there had already left for the day.

A state fire investigator is helping them figure out how the fire started.

Teenager accused of attempted armed robbery at Tonica gas station

A teenager in Tonica could be spending the rest of summer vacation in a detention home.

La Salle County deputies say they got a call just before 10pm Tuesday about an attempted armed robbery at Casey’s General Store in Tonica. They arrested a 15-year-old boy in Tonica for the alleged crime.

He was taken to the La Salle County Detention Home.
