Larose man dies after becoming trapped in a grain bin

Once you fall into a grain bin, it’s hard to get out. A 71-year-old man died after becoming trapped in a grain bin near Lacon.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call around 2:30pm Friday. Firefighters from Lacon, Sparland and surrounding fire departments spent about 45 minutes cutting holes in the side of the bin before they could reach William “Lee” Vogel of Larose. Vogel was pronounced dead by the Life Flight team that had landed at the property.

Investigators say Vogel had had worked with the property owner on and off through the years.

Update: Bond set for Henry stabbing suspect

Bond has been set at $50,000 for a Putnam County man accused of stabbing a man in Henry. Charles Hawk of Magnolia is accused of going to the home of a man he knew, stabbing him and leaving Friday evening.

The man was taken to Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton while officers in Marshall and Putnam Counties looked for Hawk’s pickup truck. Hawk was eventually arrested for aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.

Hawk is being held in the Marshall County Jail.

Men from Varna and Washburn killed in seperate crashes

Two car accidents in Marshall County have killed two men in just three days. 20-year-old David Skinner of Varna died after police say he rolled his car on a rural road west of Varna around 4:30am Wednesday.

68-year-old Paul Diebel of Washburn was pronounced dead after a similar accident Monday on Tax School Road. Police say Diebel was driving north of Washburn when he hit a culvert and an electrical box and became trapped underneath his overturned car.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and coroner were investigating both crashes.
