Raise money for a local animal shelter at Pet Fest

Posted by wlpo on October 14, 2014

Cats aren’t big fans of walking on leashes, but if your cat can survive a car ride to Baker Lake in Peru and wear a leash, they can enjoy Pet Fest.

The second largest annual fundraiser for Illinois Valley Animal Rescue is from 11am-3pm Sunday. You can donate by voting for your favorite dog or cat at Hy-Vee in Peru. The male and female pets that raise the most money will be announced at the fest.

At Pet Fest you’ll find people selling food and pet items and people that offer pet-related services. There will also be games for kids and a memorial balloon launch.

You can bring your pet to Pet Fest as long as it is on a leash, is friendly and has its shots.  Learn more about Pet Fest by listening to an interview that’s up at the WLPO AM and FM news page.

Diverse menu planned for IVAR Ethnic Food Festival

Posted by wlpo on October 1, 2014

Do sushi, Italian sausage and BBQ wings sound tempting? Those are just a few of the items that will be on the menu Sunday at Rotary Park in La Salle.

Illinois Valley Animal Rescue is trying something new and hosting an Ethnic Food Festival fundraiser. Heidi Milner with IVAR says they want it to become an annual thing.  She says IVAR is raising money by charging the restaurants to be there.  They will also be selling soda and water.

The Ethnic Food Festival is from 11am-3pm Sunday at Peru Rotary Park. You’ll find the park between Pike and Schuyler Streets on Third Street. To buy food, you’ll need to buy tickets at the festival.

You can learn more about it by listening to an interview available at the WLPO AM and FM news page.
