Evening crashes blamed on icy roads

Posted by wlpo on November 24, 2014

Icy roads have sent a number of cars into ditches or into other cars. Starting just after 4pm Monday Peru Police and Fire Departments began receiving calls.  In one crash, a utility pole was damaged.

It was not long after that they were called to a crash on Shooting Park Road near Parkside School.  It would be one of several accidents on that stretch of Shooting Park Road.

Accidents were not limited to Peru. There was a report of an overturned car on the exit ramp to Route 351 from westbound Interstate 80.

A little snowfall leads to a lot of crashes Thursday

Posted by wlpo on November 13, 2014

Were you ready for the first light snowfall of the season? Many people weren’t. It wasn’t a large snowfall, but it was enough to create a slick coat of ice on area bridges and overpasses.

Soon after the snow started to fall Thursday afternoon, police and fire departments were getting called to accidents on Interstates 80 and 39.

Many of the accidents were near or on bridges, where without the warmth of the ground, ice formed quickly.

Workers with the Illinois State Police and La Salle County Sheriff’s Department said the crashes were mostly minor, with no serious injuries.
