A crash involving a snow plow draws police and firefighters to Interstate 80

While plows have been out since before sunrise Tuesday, most area highways and roads are patchy with snow and ice. Allow yourself extra time to stop.

An accident on Interstate 80 was affecting traffic heading west through Bureau County. The crash Monday afternoon involved a snow plow, semi and a car around about two miles west of the Spring Valley and Ladd exit.

No one was hurt but crews were on the scene for more than hour.

Teenage driver ticketed in fatal crash in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) – Authorities in Peoria issued four traffic citations to a teenage driver involved in a fatal one-car crash last weekend.

The Peoria Journal Star reports police did not identify the 17-year-old driver because of privacy exemptions for juveniles. Peoria police gave the driver tickets for failing to reduce speed, improper lane usage, having too many passengers and reckless driving.

Seventeen-year-old Danielle Smith of Sparland died when the sport utility vehicle rolled in the Saturday crash. She was a junior at Midland High School in Varna.

Six other occupants of the vehicle were taken to Peoria hospitals for treatment. They’ve all been released.

Peoria County prosecutors also are reviewing the case.

Man from Sandwich killed in crash north of Ottawa

If you’ve been following the story about a fatal crash in Ottawa, the driver killed was from Sandwich.

The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Justin Nichols was southbound on Route 71 Monday afternoon when for whatever reason he crossed into the other lane of traffic and hit a delivery truck head-on. Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal crash happened just before 1:30pm near the intersection of Route 71 and the Morris Blacktop.

Mendota man killed during pickup truck crash

A crash early Wednesday morning outside of Troy Grove killed a man from Mendota.

36-year-old Lance Musgrove was heading north on Interstate 39 around 2:42am when investigators say he lost control of his pickup truck. His truck rolled several times before stopping in a ditch. Musgrove was dead at the scene.

The Illinois State Police and the La Salle County Coroner’s office are investigating.

Spring Valley youth coach killed in crash north of Peru

If you were following the story about the serious crash on Route 251, police believe it happened after someone ran a stop sign.

La Salle County Sheriffs investigators say Dion Ward of Carlinville was on North 32nd Road Saturday afternoon when he ran the stop sign at Route 251 near the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

Police say he was hit by Amber Sessler of La Salle who was heading south on Route 251. Sessler and a man that was riding with her, 36-year-old Nicholas Magana of Spring Valley, were taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Another man with her, David Mierzwa of Peru was taken to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Ward and his two-year-old son were also taken to St. Francis. Ward was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Magana died from his injuries Sunday. The crash is still being investigated. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.

Services for Streator teen will happen inside a high school gym

In the coming months, Pops Dale Gymnasium in Streator will be noisy with high school hoops. Saturday it’ll be the site of a visitation and funeral service.

17-year-old Benjamin Newton of Streator will be remembered during a visitation that starts at 10am and a funeral service at 2pm inside the high school gym. Newton was killed Wednesday night after the car he was riding in crashed north of Streator.

Two other teens in the car are being treated in Peoria with one listed Thursday in serious condition and the other in critical condition.

Update: Streator teen killed in crash

Crisis counselors were available at Streator High School, a day after a crash that killed a student and injured three others.

17-year-old Benjamin Newton of Streator was pronounced dead at the scene on East 18th Road Wednesday night.  La Salle County Sheriff’s deputies says Newton was one of four teens that were thrown from the car that was found in a field.

Three teens were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator.  From there two were flown to St. Francis Medical Center. One was in critical condition while the other was in serious condition.  Their names have not been made public as an investigation continues.

Truck driver ticketed after crash near Princeton

One crash led to another crash near Princeton. Illinois State Police Troopers say a semi-trailer tipped over after a semi rear-ended another trailer around 5:30am Wednesday on Interstate 80.

The crash involved three trucks.   No one was hurt but one of the drivers, David Blacher of Bedford Park, was ticketed for following too closely and not slowing down to avoid a crash.

Route 52 crash leaves two people injured

A day after a crash that stopped traffic on Route 52, a man is in critical condition. James Stewart of Newark was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after his semi crashed with car near Sheridan Tuesday morning.

Police say Stewart was heading west on Route 52 when a car pulled out from a county road and the two collided.

Pamela Anderson of Millington taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa and was ticketed for disobeying a traffic control device.

Crash leads to a car fire on Route 18

Driving in a pouring rain is different than driving on a dry day. A woman from Peoria will be shopping for a new car after hers was destroyed in a crash Tuesday evening in Putnam County.

Police say Sreyoneel Biwas was on Route 18 near Route 26 when she lost controlled. Her car went down a hill and overturned. She was able to get out before it caught fire. She wasn’t hurt, but the car was a total loss.
