Local support group to participate in global candlelight vigil

Posted by wlpo on December 9, 2014

Putting up the Christmas tree and watching Christmas movies are supposed to be fun activities, but Christmas can be a sad time, especially if the holiday reminds of you of a child you lost.

A Compassionate Friends support group meets regularly for parents that have lost children, but Sunday they are doing something special.  The local group, along with Compassionate Friends groups in other countries, is holding their annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Sunday.

The event begins New Zeland Sunday evening and will continue around the globe.

If you lost a child and would like to participate, there will be a gathering at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru at 6:30pm Sunday. Candles will be provided. You are encouraged to bring a picture of your child and any poems, readings, or music you would like to share to honor your child.

Grief support group to hold walk and balloon launch

Posted by wlpo on September 22, 2014

When you lose a child, no matter their age, you lose a piece of yourself. You don’t have to grieve alone. The local chapter of Compassionate Friends meets once a month.

Sunday they’re trying something new- a walk and balloon release at Baker Lake in Peru.  Rita Studzinski lost a child nearly 13 years ago. She’s hoping the walk will help them reach out to people who could use the support.

Registration is at 9am Sunday with the walk at 10am. It is $10 to enter with the money to be spent on research and educational materials.  Learn more about the group and the walk by listening to an interview that’s available at the WLPO AM and FM news page.
