Amboy girl dies after ATV accident

If you were following the story about the girl that was seriously injured during an ATV accident near Amboy, the girl has died.

Seven-year-old Makenzie Rutherford of Amboy died Tuesday morning at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was taken there after the ATV she was riding on hit a deer Sunday night.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department says Brian Dees of Amboy was driving the ATV and had Rutherford sitting in front of him while Rutherford’s mother, Cassandra Gray, was sitting behind him. Police say no one was wearing a helmet. Dees was ticketed for operating an ATV on the road.

Dees was tested for drugs and alcohol but the results won’t be available for several weeks.

ATV crash leaves an Amboy girl hospitalized

ATV’s might seem like fun but they can be dangerous. A seven-year-old girl is hospitalized after the ATV she was on collided with a deer.

The crash happened Sunday evening in Lee County. Police say Brian Dees of Amboy had the girl sitting in front of him and the girl’s mother, Cassandra Gray, sitting behind him while they road on Sublette Road. Police say nobody was wearing a helmet.

All of them were taken to Mendota Community Hospital. The girl, Makenzie Rutherford of Amboy was transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital where she is in critical condition.  Gray and Dees were treated and released in Mendota.

Dees was tickted for operating an ATV on the road. He was also tested for drugs and alcohol but police say the results won’t be available for several weeks.
