Mendota police seek chainsaw owner

Are you missing a chainsaw?  The Mendota Police Department may have it.

The department posted a message on its Facebook page saying that on Thursday afternoon, officers took possession of a chainsaw after it fell out of a vehicle in the 800 block of Washington Street.  If you think it’s yours, call the Mendota PD.

Be prepared to give the make, model and serial number of the chainsaw in order to prove that it’s yours.

Chicago Police charge 2 teens in Wilson Wilson death

2 teenagers have been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an Illinois congressman’s grandson. Chicago police did not identify the 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl, who are due in bond court later today.

Police said the two were arrested after they were identified as suspects in Friday’s shooting death of 15-year-old Javon Wilson, the grandson of U.S. Rep. Danny Davis of Chicago. Police have said the shooting stemmed from a dispute over basketball shoes.

SEIU Local plans strike at O’Hare during Holiday

O’Hare International Airport workers who voted to strike are announcing when they plan to take action.  Service Employees International Union Local 1 officials say they will announce the date of their strike at 10 a.m. Monday at the airport.

About 500 workers committed to a strike after a vote Thursday. The workers involved have been trying to organize with the union’s help. They work mainly for private contractors at the airport. The workers are seeking union rights and a $15 per hour wage. They include baggage handlers, cabin cleaners, janitors, and wheelchair attendants.

SEIU Local 1 President Tom Balanoff says they don’t expect to shut down the airport but will create a disruption. The strike comes during the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel week.

Streator Eagle 6 theatre prepping for important dates

If you live in Streator, you’ll have 6 choices of movies – in 1 spot – starting December 2.  Streator Eagle 6 is not only preparing for a grand opening, but for an open house and tour this Saturday afternoon. Hours will be 1 -7pm.

According to their Facebook page, they will offer stadium style luxury seating, free refills on all sizes of soda and popcorn.  So far, 5 films are lined up for its opening: Fantastic Beasts, Allied, Bad Santa 2, Moana and Rules Don’t Apply.

Area pantry re-stocks after busy Saturday

While the Illinois Valley Food Pantry was dispensing holiday baskets Saturday, new supplies were being collected a few miles away.  LaSalle County Broadcasting stations  – “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO”, “99-3 WAJK” and “96-5 The Wolf” joined with Peru Hy-Vee,  Illinois Valley Y and Stevenson Transfer to again “Fill the Mayflower”.

Donna Hess, Executive Director of the Illinois Valley Food Pantry stated 4208 pounds of canned goods and $180 in cash had been collected over a 6 hour period Saturday. Hess said volunteers will again start sorting and stocking on Monday as they prepare for the Christmas distribution on December 17.  The Pantry will always accept more food, but cash donations help tremendously, too.
