Donnelly Downs Towne for state’s attorney

There will be a new top prosecutor in La Salle County.

Republican challenger Karen Donnelly ousted Democratic incumbent Brian Towne by getting 54 percent of the vote.  Donnelly got 25,899 votes to Towne’s 21,815.

The campaign turned dirty at times but it was the first time in the last three elections that Towne had to face a challenger for his job.

Question of desolving township passes

It was just an advisory question, but it looks like voters in Peru don’t care too much for township form of government.

A referendum that asked whether or not the city of Peru should continue the process of dissolving Peru Township passed with 61 percent approval. The total vote count was 2,758 yes and 1,791 no.

When it comes to binding referendums, both Cherry and Dimmick School District voters overwhelmingly supported the permanent consolidation of the two school districts.

McCook maintains Bureau County Board seat

In Bureau County’s only contested county board race incumbent Robert McCook held off challenger Jeff Pinter in District 12 in Bureau County. The margin was just under 100 votes.
