Statewide sportsmanship award for L-P

Posted by wlpo on November 5, 2016

Good sportsmanship is paying off for L-P.

The school’s “Super Fans” received the 2016 Jack Kelly Fair Play Award Special Recognition from the Illinois High School Association. The award is given yearly to an athlete, coach or official for an outstanding act of fair play or sportsmanship.

L-P was nominated by an IHSA official for how they acknowledged the death of two Galesburg High School students before the teams played football last year. The L-P color guard put together a tribute for the victims and the L-P band that night played the Galesburg fight song.

Avery represents a district south of the state Capitol. The 24-year-old lawmaker is the youngest in the Illinois Legislature.
