Meal and warrant served to youth in Ottawa Saturday

If you can’t serve a warrant at a residence, try a restaurant.  A deputy arrested 19-year old Jose Rodrigues-Delara of Streator Saturday afternoon at Monte’s Riverside Inn in Ottawa.   The Streator teen had failed to show in LaSalle County Court for a charge of driving while license is suspended.  He was taken to the county jail to await bond of at least $400.

Utica holds annual Veterans gathering next Sunday

Next Sunday, Utica honors veterans on the ground and in the air. Utica’s American Legion Pierce Davis Post #731 hosts their 10th annual Parade and Air Show.  Flyovers during the 1pm parade will feature TBM WWII Torpedo Bomber, Wildcat T-6 Marine Trainers and Russian YAK-3 WWII Fighter planes.

Other parade units include military vehicles and Displays, Veteran Groups and Color Guards, Chicago Police Bagpipes and Drums, Military Vehicle Preservation Groups, Legion Riders and Starved Rock ABATE.  A complimentary brunch for all veterans will be served in the downtown Community Hall from 8 – Noon. Culvert work on Bureau County road Tuesday

If you travel through the Route 6 and County Highway 27 intersection in Bureau County,  you’ll have to change your routine Tuesday.  According to Maureen Kennedy Meier of the Bureau County Highway Department, IDOT will be doing a 1 day job of replacing a culvert where the 2 roads meet. It will result in the closure of County Highway 27 for 1 day. County Highway 27 is also known as 2400 East street.

Burning Streator home familiar to firefighters

The vacant house burning Saturday night in Streator was a familiar one to firefighters. They had been there before and had to return again about 10:30pm. Saturday.  According to a department release, the house, at 513 South Vermillion, was fully engulfed when the department arrived. The intense flames were about to ignite  2 neighboring homes in flames.

Firefighters, immediately went to work and saved those structures then extinguished the main fire before leaving after 1am. The home where the fire originated has severe damage.  The others received minor damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by Streator Fire and Police and the State Fire Marshall.

Clothing theft(s) get Streator man jailed

Apparently, a  Streator man was only after women’s underwear when he allegedly broke into a residence on the 100 block of Allen street in Ottawa in 2014.  30-year old  Juan Garcia Nunez was order held Friday in Ottawa on 1 million dollars bond, though authorities believe he may receive additional charges because of at least 20 or more reported incidents over 2 years.

The News Tribune quoted Ottawa Police Captain Dave Gualandri, who said, “We believe this guy was a significant threat to the community”. Gualandri thinks Nunez acted alone. He will need $100,000 to bond out.

Trick or Treating Monday in the area

Many communities are observing trick or treating hours Monday.  Those observing between 5 – 7pm include LaSalle, Peru, Spring Valley, Utica, Streator, Ladd, Lostant, Depue, Mark, Mendota, Hennepin and Granville.  Hennepin and Granville have additional events planned prior to trick or treating.  Other communities observing between 5:30 and 7:30 Monday include Oglesby, Tonica and Princeton. Ottawa will observe Trick or Treating in the downtown businesses from 3 – 5 and 6 -8pm in homes.
