Arrest made in rash of car burglaries in Ottawa

Posted by wlpo on October 14, 2016

A couple handguns floating around Chicago could’ve been stolen in Ottawa.

On Wednesday, Ottawa Police took seven reports of car break-ins around town. In two of the burglaries guns were stolen. The next day 26-year-old William Grennan of Marseilles was arrested for three counts of burglary. He came up with the $2,500 needed to bond out.

Investigators say the guns have not been recovered and have been entered into a state database. Officers think they were sold in Chicago within hours after being stolen.

Ottawa Police say in October alone they’ve had 14 car break-ins reported. In almost each case the cars were left unlocked overnight.
