Peru City Council likely to freeze salaries for city leaders

Although some of them may not have the job in May, the current Peru City Council will be deciding on salaries for city officials.

The council will vote Monday to freeze salaries for the mayor, alderman, and city clerk and city treasurer. Tonight’s vote will set the pay for the winner’s of April’s election.

The pay for being Peru’s mayor and liquor commissioner is $31,600 a year. The city clerk earns more than $58,000 a year while the treasurer makes just less than $6,000. Aldermen bring in less than $5,000 yearly.

Hennepin business part of international grain tour

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Dozens of international buyers are headed to Hennepin.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is hosting more than 40 buyers from ten countries starting today as they try to increase export sales for the grain industry. One of the stops during the international grain tour is Marquis Energy in Hennepin.

According to state agriculture officials, this grain tour has generated nearly $200 million in sales annually in previous years.
