Park draws smaller weekend numbers

Posted by wlpo on October 2, 2016

Contrast Saturday’s attendance at Starved Rock State Park with a summer weekend this year and you’ll notice a difference. Jolyn Wise, the Park’s Natural Resources Coordinator, said only 9400 people were in Starved Rock Saturday and about a 1000 in the Visitors Center.  You may recall a weekend not long ago when the park had to shut down for a time.  Estimated numbers at that time were likely around 26-thousand.

Wise cautions that the same summer visitors who came earlier will likely return to see the fall color changes in the Park. The Park will host “Fall Colors Weekend” on the 15th and 16th.  There will be short and long hikes offered each day…but only at 9am.  The huge popularity of the facility makes it very difficult to host an afternoon hike.
