No big spending in the works at Ottawa High

Posted by wlpo on September 20, 2016

Spending is going to be flat for at least one Illinois Valley high school.

At Monday night’s school board meeting, Ottawa Superintendent Mike Cushing laid out the proposed budget for the upcoming year. He says the $23.6 million dollar budget is actually going to be $250,000 less than what the school spent last year. The drop in spending is due to the school taking on fewer capital improvement projects in the next year.

Cushing went on to say the state is not generating enough revenue to make all payments it has currently promised. He said if the state cannot come up with more money to pay the schools, it will be “problematic come February.”
