Posted by wlpo on September 20, 2016

The man accused of a fatal hit-and-run involving a Mendota teenage girl is still on track to be tried next month.

Twenty-year-old Jose Torres of Oglesby had his final pretrial hearing pushed back from Monday to October 3rd. However his jury trial in Bureau County for failure to report an accident involving a death is still on for October 17th.

Torres is accused of hitting and killing 19-year-old Jacquelin Martinez of Mendota last August while she and others were walking on a rural road near Bureau. Everyone but Martinez survived.

He is being held in jail on $30,000 bond.
