Daughter “Never Asked Once About Money” as Mom Spent Hundreds of Thousands Paying Credit Card

Posted by wlpo on September 13, 2016

You probably don’t talk to your kids much about money. But, if you started paying off their credit card every month, do you think they’d ask some questions?

For Connie Steinbach, the answer to that question is no. The woman who has already pled guilty to stealing more than $1 million from J.B. Contracting in La Salle took the stand Tuesday in her daughter’s defense. Steinbach claimed that 30-year old Ashia Kolodziej never questioned where the money came from.

In 5 years, Steinbach allegedly paid nearly $300,000 on one credit card Kolodziej owned. States’ Attorney Brian Towne is looking to convince Judge Daniel Bute that she knew the money was stolen, which would make her also guilty of theft.

The defense is expected to finish their case and closing arguments will be heard Wednesday afternoon. Judge Bute is expected to decide Kolodziej’s fate Thursday.
