Acquistion raises questions of some Walgreens closing
Posted by wlpo on September 11, 2016
Walgreens – the #1 drug store chain – is in the process of acquiring its #3 competitor – Rite Aid. Fortune reports that its a $9 billion dollar acquisition likely forcing Walgreens to shutter around 500 stores. There is NO list of store closings at this time. Walgreens maintains a presense in Peru, Ottawa and Streator.
CVS – the Number 2 chain and Walgreens together have 20,000 locations in the U.S.…..something the Federal Trade Commission will examine in light of the Walgreens / Rite Aid merger. Again, there is NO closing list at this time.
