Man hospitalized after trailer catches fire in Seneca

A trailer was gutted and a man inside of it burned in Seneca.

Several fire departments responded to the trailer fire along Route 6 just after 10 Sunday morning. A medical helicopter was quickly called to land in Morris. The chopper took one man to the burn unit at Loyola University Medical Center.

Acquistion raises questions of some Walgreens closing

Walgreens – the #1 drug store chain – is in the process of acquiring its #3 competitor – Rite Aid. Fortune reports that its a $9 billion dollar acquisition likely forcing Walgreens to shutter around 500 stores. There is NO list of store closings at this time. Walgreens maintains a presense in Peru, Ottawa and Streator.

CVS – the Number 2 chain and Walgreens together have 20,000 locations in the U.S.…..something the Federal Trade Commission will examine in light of the Walgreens / Rite Aid merger.  Again, there is NO closing list at this time.

Visitor numbers light at Starved Rock Saturday

Was it “one of those days” at Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks Saturday?.  A Starved Rock Visitors Center employee told “Classic Hits 103-9 WLPO” 11-thousand were in Starved Rock State Park Saturday and about 3000 in Matthiessen.

Traffic into Utica and the 2 parks appeared to move along without snarling Sunday.

9-11 remembered by Tonica F. D. Sunday

Did you take time to remember the 15th anniversary of  9-11 Sunday?  Tonica Volunteer Fire Department did by hosting a pancake breakfast, but stopping to include moments of silence timed to the key events of that day.

Rick Turri, Tonica’s information officer, said the department’s original fire bell was sounded to remind all of the many brave souls who answered their last call on September 11, 2001.

LaSalle Council considers officials’ salaries Monday

How much should the LaSalle mayor, City Clerk and alderman be paid to perform their positions?  Ordinances setting compensation for each will be brought before and voted on by the council at their Monday night meeting. An ordinance prohibiting the use of groundwater as a potable water supply will also come before the council. The council meets at 7pm.

Fake EMS worker found at Sandwich Fair

EMS workers at a fair or other public event assure you that help is there if there’s a problem.  Yesterday afternoon about 4:30pm, there was a problem at the Sandwich Fair.  It was discovered that one of the EMS workers was a fake.

A  Dekalb County Sheriff’s deputy came to the scene and found 28-year old Andrew Pepperdine of Yorkville. The deputy’s investigation alleges Pepperdine was wearing a Fire Department shirt, pager and scanner and allegedly making statements to people that he was an EMS worker.  Pepperdine was charged with falsely impersonating an EMS worker and taken to the Dekalb County jail pending bond.
