Posted by wlpo on August 20, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Governor Bruce Rauner has signed a law eliminating sales taxes on feminine hygiene products.

The Republican signed the law Friday repealing so-called “pink taxes” on things like tampons and menstrual pads. The change takes effect January 1. Illinois is the third state this year to eliminate the taxes.

The Illinois Senate sponsor was Democrat Melinda Bush of Grayslake. She says she plans to discuss taxes on other products women must buy but men don’t.
