IDVA and “Rolling Thunder” dedicate Chair

Posted by wlpo on August 20, 2016

At first glance, it’s simply an empty fold out chair. It has a black seat cushion and another to support a person’s back. But the chair’s backing has the familiar POW/MIA insignia and it will remain an empty chair. It’s a message from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and “Rolling Thunder Chapter 1” that some 91,000 POW/MIA’s aren’t home and are indeed missing.

That’s the significance of the empty chair. IDVA director Erica Jeffries was present at the LaSalle Veterans Facility where 1 such chair was dedicated Saturday. She told 20 resident veterans that because of you all,  your dedication and commitment to honoring those who have served and those who did not return home, we will remember. That’s what today is all about.  Also present  was Bill Houghtaling of “Rolling Thunder Chapter 1” who also spoke of remembering those who haven’t come home.
