Carnies cause problems in Mendota

Posted by wlpo on August 16, 2016

Chances are there will be a new carnival company at next year’s Sweet Corn Festival in Mendota.

According to the NewsTribune, Angie Scoggins who owns Angie’s Whistle Stop on Main Street in Mendota complained to the city council last night that carnival workers rolled into town using foul language and racial slurs towards her and her family. Scoggins says she was berated by carnival owners and they scared her children. She went on to say they intentionally put up large rides in front of her restaurant.

Mayor David Boelk says he has also been unhappy with the carnival. In talking with the chamber of commerce, Mendota’s city clerk told Scoggins that this year’s carnival was asked not to come back next year.
